2B, Dustin Ackley, Tacoma Rainiers
Dustin Ackley is the top prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization. The second overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft was rated the 11th overall prospect before the 2010 season and was rated 12th before the start of the 2011season by Baseball America.
The 23-year-old Ackley had a 10-game stint in May that had some thinking he would find himself in Seattle before the end of the month. In those ten games, the second baseman had hit .405 with a 1.136 OPS for the Rainiers. Although his average isn’t where it’s expected to be, Ackley has still been productive for Tacoma, with 21 RBI’s and 27 runs through May 22.
1B, Thomas Neal, Fresno Grizzlies
With the injuries to the San Francisco Giants regulars like Buster Posey, Andres Torres and Pablo Sandoval, the Giants have been bringing up a lot of their prospect talent. Thomas Neal(ranked the 96th prospect by BaseballAmerica pre-2010) is one player that has remained, while guys like Darren Ford, Emmanuel Burriss, Brandon Belt and Ryan Vogelsong have been spending time in the Majors.
The 23-year-old outfielder is considered by many, the best Giants prospect left in the Minors. Neal has shot up the system playing for Augusta in 2008, San Jose in 2009, Richmond in 2010 and is currently playing for Fresno. In 18 games for Fresno this season, Neal has hit .350 while scoring 15 runs and bringing in 9.
